Meet the Next Breakout Artist to Watch Out for in 2020!

Meet Jan Dready, the next breakout artist to look out for this year! Last week I got the chance to sit down with him for a one-on-one interview. In May he dropped his summer hit “Blue Face.” With the buzz from his single… he is getting attention from Hot 97 where he earned 9th place out of 100 contestants in the “Who’s Next” competition. He is also one of the top competitors in this year’s Coast to Coast lineup.  Here is what he had say!

1. What got you into music?

My uncle Roger. He was very musically gifted. He would always dance and sing around the house. He was like an older brother to me.

2. Which artists would you like to collaborate with?

Post Malone, Chris Brown, Kid Cudi, Kanye, Sabrina Claudio… there’s too many to name!

3. If you can have your fans remember one thing about you, what would it be?

How great of an actual human being I was!

4. If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Always stick to what you want and don’t let the opinions of others alter your true destiny.

5. What instruments do you play?

My vocals and I’m currently learning guitar.

6. Which artists inspire you the most?

Kid Cudi, Kanye, and Nipsey Hussle

7. What artists have you learned from and what did they teach you?

I learned a lot from Nipsey Hussle. Mostly on how to be self-sufficient and have follow through.

8. Who are your favorite artists/what are your favorite albums?

Nipsey Hussle’s “Crenshaw” and Kid Cudi’s “Man on the Moon”

9. What advice do you have for new/upcoming artists?

Be as different as possible.

10. What do you enjoy the most about being an artist/songwriter?

The reaction of my fans and how my music affects them.

11. What next is coming in the upcoming months?

Just keeping my head down and focusing on the elevation of my brand. Also more music is on the way!

12. How did you learn to sing/write/play instruments?

When I was really young I started going to Southend Boys & Girls Club where a lady named Demmarie noticed my talent. She formulated a group around me where I would always be front and center. We performed all over, even out of state. I learned how to sing and write on my own from that experience. And now I am teaching myself how to play the guitar.

13. What is one thing you would like to change about the music industry?

How fickle it is.

14. What is the story behind your name?

My first name is Jan (pronounced John), it stems from the French language where I have family ties. Dready comes from the style of my hair.

15. Describe your sound.

Universal!

My Top 10: March

DSCN2101

If you are anything like me you love discovering new music! Luckily this month there was a lot of good new music. Here is a list of my top 10 favorite songs from March! I originally was only doing to do a top 5 but there are just too many songs I am in love with right now!

1. “Ain’t Nobody Takin My Baby” by Russ

My boyfriend was playing this song one day and I fell in love with it! I’ve listening to songs by Russ before but this is my absolute favorite.

2. “Who We Are” by Maribelle

This song came on my Spotify one day when I was listening to JoJo’s new album, Mad Love. I fell in love with it within seconds. I have never heard of Maribelle before. Her voice is amazing! You should check her out!

3. “Location (Remix)” by Khalid (featuring Lil Wayne & Kehlani)

I have heard of Khalid but have never actually listened to one of his songs before I heard this one. It came up on my recommended feed on YouTube(@ShemaiaSunflower). I’m a huge Lil Wayne and Kehlani fan so I decided to listen to it. It is very melodic and catchy! #issavibe

4. “Reckless” by JoJo

I’ve loved JoJo every since I was little. I was so happy when she started making music again! I honestly slept on her album, Mad Love, when it first came out and just recently listened to it. She killed this song! Her vocals are aaaamaaaaziiiiing! DO NOT SLEEP ON JOJO!

5. “Hello” by Ty Dolla $ign

Ty Dolla $ign’s album, Campaign, bangs just like every other project he has done. “Hello” is my favorite song off Campaign. If you haven’t listened to it you need to sis!

6. “Passionfruit” by Drake

Like everyone else in the world I’m sure you heard Drake released his new album, More Life. It has a lot of Carribbean vibes. “Passionfruit” is my favorite song off it. There were more songs I like from the album but I couldn’t fit them all on my list.

7. “Super Trapper” by Future

Future’s new album, FUTURE, is poppinnnnnnn! He never disappoints. I love to bump his album in the car, while I’m getting ready, and at the gym. His album has helped me get through workouts on several occasions!

8. “High Demand” by Future

This is also one of my favorite songs off FUTURE. As you can see I’ve listed three! #issavibe #forreal

9. “I’m So Groovy” by Future

“I’m So Groovy”… I got power… I’m so groovy… This song slaaaaaaaaapssss! I’ve had it on my snapchat(@shutupshemaia) a couple times and have people ask about it. If you’ve listened to it you’d know why.

10. “Since Way Back” by Drake (featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR)

I love Drake x PARTYNEXTDOOR collabs! This song has good vibes like majority of More Life. This is usually one of the first songs I play off the album. Girl, I know you know already…

Tell me what is your Top 10 for March?!
